Dude. You have a package manager, use it. That seems like an awful lot of work to avoid letting the package manager do it's job. Add volatile or unstable (source only) to your sources.list. apt-get source clamav cd clamav-0.88.4 dpkg-buildpackage -rfakeroot cd - dpkg -i .... It's really not that hard.
