The ClamAV website publishes the current version of the source code on the front page. They also have an Announce mail list that provides this information, and the Freshclam log will tell you if your version is behind. If you depend on a pre-built version rather than building from scratch then you should contact the person(s) who create the distribution to see what announcement policy they have.
