thanks, now I know why freshclam runs.

/etc/init.d contains
        clamd
        freshclam

/etc/inetd does not exist, /etc/xinetd does not contain any clam
references.

I don't mind it running, I just mind it complaining about an old
version when I know I've installed the new version.

As noted separately I nuked an old version of clamav tonight along
with an old version of clam-update, that may have been the source of
the nag.
