Look into "man clamd.conf" : ScanRAR Enable scanning of RAR archives. Due to license issues libclamav does not support RAR 3.0 archives (only the old 2.0 format is supported). Because some users report sta- bility problems with unrarlib it's disabled by default and must be enabled in the config file. Default: disabled There will be full suport for RAR archives in a future version. With the current version you can only have full support if you use clamscan with an external program (option --unrar[=FULLPATH]), clamdscan does not have this option. I'm leaving out a lot of information and alternatives, but this may answer your question.
