Followup -

After running for several hours last night, I did get notifications
about new virus definitions loading right when freshclam downloaded
them. So this appears to be working, although I don't know why the
initial freshclam update did not generate a notice.

I still do not have self check notices in my log files however, and I
have requested a self-check every 600 seconds at this point until I
figure this out.

Could it be that clam isn't actually doing anything right now so it
isn't self-checking? When I start running mail through this thing will
it start logging these messages?

Subject: [Clamav-users] clamd not logging freshclam notifications

I just installed 0.86.2 on a test box, both as an RPM and compiled from
source. In both cases, I am not seeing any notifications in the
clamd.log file for self-checks or notifications of new virus signatures
from freshclam. I am used to seeing these messages from earlier versions
of clam, and did not see any notes they had been removed in the
changelog. Should these be working? Can I confirm that clamd is using
the newest signatures?

My clamd.conf does contain:

LogFile /var/log/clamav/clamd.log
LogVerbose
SelfCheck 600

freshclam.conf contains:

NotifyClamd /etc/clamd.conf

I'm not so worried about this minor "glitch" as long as I can confirm
that the running clamd DOES in fact get the updates. When I type clamd
-V it does report the correct database version, but does that actually
mean the running daemon has the changes?

Thanks!
