Problem still exists. I compiled and ran the program you listed and it reports
just "net" and not the full name.
Check your /etc/sysconfig/network file. It should have the FQDN on a
HOSTNAME line. For example:
HOSTNAME=net.domain.com
You'll probably have to reboot (or at least restart networking) for the
change to take effect. To avoid the reboot, you could also set your
hostname using the "hostname" command.
Also you might want to confirm your /etc/nsswitch.conf has a line like:
hosts: files nis dns
I am running Linux net 2.4.20-31.9
By the way, RedHat 9 is now supported by the Fedora Legacy project. In
fact, they just released another kernel: 2.4.20-43.9.legacy. I suggest
you check out fedoralegacy.org and patch your systems.
