However, still No I don't think so, since this properly still runs this RC script at the same point of the RC sequence, make sure it runs as one of the last RC scripts (after rc.firewalland rc.network), maybe through your rc.local script. I'm a BSD freak thou.
Your error messages indicate strongly IMHO that it can't resolve remote destination to update from and as you state, running it later isn't a problem, so... or run it from cron once a hour. > did not solve it - same error on a reboot.
