Figured I should write the list for posterity's sake in case someone
else runs into this.

Updating from the -CURRENT port fixed the need for the
--disable-pthreads option which I needed to get a correct build before
with just the straight 0.83 source.  In turn, this fixed clamd not
getting built.  Apparently it needs the posix threads.  After that,
installing the OpenBSD package for GMP instead of building from source
fixed the problem of configure not finding GMP.  Thanks to all for the
help!!!
