Thanks for looking carefully at the config. This was turned on only
after I started having problems in the hopes it would provide something
more to investigate. I'll turn it off again.

What it says is not that clamd will hang, it will just run very slowly.
So as you pointed out, this doesn't seem to be the real problem.
