In short, its just too much to do automagically, unless you want to put in a lot of work to try and automate all that.
Simply rely on your distribution package repositories and your local yum/apt/up2date/emerge/... dependencies manager. Though finding both reliable and up-to-date repositories for some distributions can be painful (RH8 comes to my mind).
