when looking at the code, i can easily find the event signal handling code for both clamd and freshclam, though not so for clamav-milter.
libmilter handles the signals for milters
i guess it would be simpler for a lot of users if 'kill `cat /var/run/clamav/clamav-milter.pid`
would get honoured.
