I've tried all combinations of gif, pdf, jpg, doc files without causing the error. If it was every attachment, I would suspect permissions. Maybe I'm wrong? >
I remember a problem (more than a year ago) with amavisd-new which "obeyed" original permissions of files in archives during extracting them. I.e. it created temporary files with modes like "a-r" if the files in the archive were such. Then it couldn't scan them. Obviously the type of the files (gif, doc etc.) didn't matter. It was quickly fixed after I reported it - thanks to amavisd-new developers :-). So, it may be (or not) a similar situation. -- Tomasz Papszun SysAdm @ TP S.A.
