I have set up samba with the vscan-clamav module (instructions on
http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/printing-howto.xml).

I am encountering some problems because clamd does not have the necessary
permissions to enter all of the shared directories, and (in particular) is
unable to move infected files into the quarantine directory. I assume that
clamd would need to have write permissions on all shared directories. All
of my "ordinary" users are in the "users" group in /etc/passwd.
All of my "public" directories have the following permissions:

    drwxrwsr-x root users

.. and all users' home directories are:

    drwxr-xr-x username users

On poster on another group suggested adding clamd (the user running clamd)
to the "users" group to overcome this.

Is this a safe thing to do?
