Ah, that is the crucial piece of information I was missing. I'm not much
of a code wizard and a brief look at the freshclam tree in the source
didn't really help. Clearly I should have looked in the clamd part of
the tree to find it.

Thanks for that, now I feel happier, it never occurred to me to compare
the exim logs with the clam logs and correlate activity like that.
