Cristiano, Have you checked all the obvious things - you can resolve the names in freshclam.conf OK. (i.e. DatabaseMirror database.clamav.net) There are loads of mails in the archive about DNS & UDP .v. TCP wrt packet size and the problems caused by this. There have also been various mails about building clam from sources and making sure that you have the correct libraries in place to support the digital signature of the database - possibly worth a look. Apart from firewall / DNS / digiatl signature issues I cannot think of another reason for freshclam not working.
