Sorry Scott,
Wrong data on last reply. Too many machines. But now you can see that 
the answer was not closing the logfile before logrotate.

-rw-r-----  1 clamav root 6639 Jun  7 13:48 /var/log/clam-update.log
-rw-r--r--  1 root   root   20 Jun  7 04:02 /var/log/clam-update.log.1.gz
