[Clamav-users] Xclamav: error connecting to filter

I installed ClamAV & Milter about ten days ago using RPMs from http://dag.wieers.com/packages/clamav/ and a HOWTO located on http://forums.ev1servers.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=43078

Everything worked fine and mail was being scanned for virus correctly. Yesterday it started to show some issues, like timing out on outgoing messages and not detecting some virus. I restarted clamav-milter and it seamed the problem was solved, but I then realized clamav-milter was not working at all!!

clamd.log stopped logging information, it only logs for SelfChecks

I went ahead and uninstalled the RPMs using rpm -e <package> and reinstalled them once again using the same procedure described on the HOWTO. Since yesterday I have uninstalled/installed four times but Milter just doesn't work!! I know ClamAV works because I can scan files using clamscan (though clamdscan does not work on some files).

Looking at the maillog file I see entries like this:

Apr 16 19:51:19 myserver sendmail[20387]: i3H0pJm20387: Xclamav: error connecting to filter: Connection refused by /var/clamav/clmilter.socket

Please advise!!
I'm tired, confused and totally lost on this!!
