Hi All,

I have installed clam scan on Fedora. My needs are simple. I want to
run a periodic scan of almost all files on the system. This seems
simple enough. However, I am not interested in running the daemon, just
clamscan. However, the clamav.conf seems to only apply to the daemon.
Is there no configuration file for clamscan? Is there no way to get it
to use the clamav.conf?

Looking at the documentation, it is at least very clear on what you
intend to do.

Thanks you for your reply.  But for me it is not very clear.  I looked at the documentation before and after your reply.  I still do not have an answer.

For example the man page in clamd says:
...........
It  reads  its  configuration  information from a clamav.conf file.
.........

nothing here about clamscan.  clamscan man page says nothing about using a config file.  The clamav.conf starts by saying:
NAME
clamav.conf - a configuration file for Clam AntiVirus Daemon

DESCRIPTION
clamav.conf configures the Clam AntiVirus daemon, clamd(8).
..........

Nothing here about clamscan, it all refers to the daemon (clamd).  This goes for the comments in the config file too.  And searching the PDF revealed nothing about a config file for clamscan.

Now don't get me wrong.  ClamAV is an impressive product with impressive documentation.  But there are holes.  However, if you know where the information I need is at please point me directly to it. Or you could just post the answer since it should be real short like the name of a file or an option in clamscan.

Thanks,

Chris
        cheers
