Thanx everybody for the responses.

I'll have to see what the databasemirror will do. I tried to run
freshclam with database.clamav.net and that worked

Yup. As a temporary solution, the maintainer of database mirror has removed
several hosts (new mirrors) from database.clamav.net so that the DNS response
would fit a single UDP packet. This is a temporary solution, but should fix
your problem.

I guess we'll be running our current virus scanner

In my oppinion, if you want *commercial* support from a trusted, proven
AV vendor, and have the money to do so, better stick with your current scanner.

However, if you're
- looking for an OpenSource product, or
- don't have the money to pay commercial AV product, or
- want to use an AV scanner with FAST signature updates (sometimes faster
than any commercial AV product), or
- looking for a MAIL virus scanner, or
- just want to have a backup scanner
then ClamAV is the perfect choice.

Note that in its current state ClamAV is not recommended for desktop (client)
scanner. Even on Linux client.

next to clamav until
the macro issue is solved

It has. In CVS version.
