That's like saying that SMTP and POP3 (or IMAP) go together, so they should 
both log to the same file in the same format....

I don't think an anti-virus scanning daemon and a virus signature library 
updater should be expected to produce the same sort of output - one is 
concerned with scanning files and reporting on the contents; the other is 
connecting to external servers and downloading files.   The expected results, 
and the possible errors, are very different.

That seems like a reasonable request.
