This is a known bug with ClamAV. I reported it a couple of weeks ago
(search archive for "Long-standing bug in clamav").
There appears to be a memory leak somewhere in clamd. I have tried upping
and upping the softlimit for clamd - eventually something comes through
that pushes the required memory over the limit and after that it hangs
forever...
(a good reason to use softlimit I must say! If I didn't have that in
place, clamd would have eventually swallowed all the RAM on the system...)
