With what message? If clamd dies, clamav-milter will, depending
on whether or not you use the '--dont-scan-on-error' flag, either
return a TEMPFAIL to the caller, in which case the item stays in the
queue, or passes the mail through unscanned.

Neither of these cases is a quit. If you do 'ps' is clamav-milter still running?
What do you see in /var/log/maillog?

If you set foreground and debug in clamav.conf and start the program by hand
what message(s) do you see?
