Running debian with ClamAV version devel-20040114, clamav-milter version 0.66d.
Im finding clamav very unstable.
Sorry 'bout that. You found the right place to change your mind, though ;-)

It have happend several time that the mailserver
doesnt function anymore. I've found out so far that its clamav which's not working.
I have to kill any process (clamd / milter) and restart them again to get things going.
What might be wrong?
One/several of your mails are causing clamd to misbehave (hence the clamd timeouts).
If clamd's memory footprint also grows, it may be related to an (already resolved) issue regarding handling of BinHex encoded files.
But to get help please update to the latest CVS version. CVS versions usually improve from day to day, with very small chances to introduce new bugs (but that's why we have the last 7 snapshots online).
This is my clamd.log:
At the time 19.34 the mailserver didnt function and something seems to be wrong
but im not quite sure how read the log. Seems that clamd is trying to restart and
doesnt like the old socket?
Two problems here:
Fri Feb 6 16:20:06 2004 -> Session 1 stopped due to timeout.
This may have two causes:
1. The mail to scan is rather big, and/or has a structure for which parsing/scanning takes a long time (eg. multiple and/or nested archives). Try increasing your ThreadTimeout setting in clamav.conf.
2. The mail's internal structure may be corrupt, and we curently can't handle such corruption. If you can isolate such a mail, please either try to cut it down to the minimum which clamav can't handle (note that this requires some knowledge of mail formats), or forward it directly to one of the developers (we take care of privacy issues).

Fri Feb 6 19:34:56 2004 -> ERROR: Socket file /var/run/clamav/clamd.sock exists. Either remove it, or configure a different one.
Please add/enable the FixStaleSocket option in clamav.conf.
