Following up on this, I assume running clamd as a non-privileged user
means that it will not have permission to process email via trashscan /
clamdscan and a .procmailrc entry on a per user basis? The reason I want
to run clamdscan is to save the overhead of reading in the virus db each
time it runs. Are there any security issues with clamd as root besides
being able to scan any file on the server?

Maybe having clamd operate similar to spamd for spamassassin could be a
good thing for a future version. spamd runs as root, bet setuid's to the
user running spamc. This could be applied to clamd, where it setuid's to
the user running clamdscan, which would add a layer of security to the
daemon, while allowing it the freedom required to run via a user's
.procmailrc file.

If anyone has any suggestions or comments on getting this to work, please
let me know. Thanks.

Rob
