Hm.   Good question.   On another system I run (which does automatic updates 
every 12 hours) I do indeed have 19799 sigs.

I'll look into why my laptop (which is set to do a freshclam every time it 
boots up) has a few more than expected....

I know there aren't any more than the expected number of .db files, so there 
must be something a bit strange inside them...
