That'd be because the most recent package in sid is approaching two months
old.

There's a very good reason for that - the Debian maintainer has a policy of
only backporting bugfixes, and not features, from non-released Clamav
versions. (In fact, he doesn't have much of a choice - given Sarge's Release
Manager's policy, such packages could have been uploaded, but they'd have to
have gone into experimental, not sid).
