Nigel,

you state that no timeout is required because libmilter has it's own. You miss the point: With a timeout on the socket you know exactly where and why the milter stopped it's operation and you can act. E.g. you can generate a SNMP trap or at least syslog() the cause. If you let libmilter do the timeout, you loose this information.
