Hi All,
I run qmail and use clamav as a scanner to scan each email coming in and out.
I've recently been having some strange problems. It all
started one morning when one of my customers called and said they couldn't send any
email, but they could recieve them. I looked at the server's
logs and soon discovered that there was something seriously wrong with clamav. I
looked at the log file and saw this multiple times in
/var/log/maillog :

Jun 30 10:13:14 mail X-Qmail-Scanner-1.16: [mail.mydomain.com10569823944261775]
clam_scanner: corrupt or unknown ClamAV scanner error or
memory/resource/perms problem - exit status 50

I have setup clamav to automatically update the virus definition files every day at
8am. I looked at the log file that I log the update status to
and saw the following:

Checking for a new database - started at Mon Jun 23 10:16:21 2003
viruses.db is up to date.
ERROR: The checksum of viruses.db2 database isn't ok. Please check it yourself o

r try again.

Something strange is going on. I then manually updated the viruses.db2 file and
everything started working normally. I turned off the automatic
updating I have in crontab which runs the command "/usr/local/bin/freshclam --quiet -l
/var/log/clam-update.log". This also happened not only on
my email hosting server, but also on one my client's personal email server. I'd
apperciate any help with this. Sorry if this has already been
addressed. I searched the archives, but couldn't find anything relating to this.
Thanks.

David Gottschalk
