Apache can be used as a proxy server, so if you proxy your connections through it, you 
will be protecting yourself from virii on OTHER servers :)

If you're using Squid you could set it to chain connections to your Apache+mod_clamav 
server and get Virus protection that way.  One of my clients has a Trend Micro product 
that is a web proxy with AV filtering - I have Squid chained through that in much the 
same way you could use apache+mod_clamav.
