Robert this is probably best asked on the mailscanner list, I am on both and use mailscanner a lot so I'll try and help but for the sake of others on the list who might not want all the in depth mailscanner stuff reply to me offlist. Basically the install script runs some checks on your system to make sure it can do the install, it has found that you don't have /usr/src/redhat etc directories on your box and it needs these as it rebuilds the rpms on your system to make sure they will work and gives more flexibility for different Linux flavours. If you have perl 5.8 installed you probably have the required perl modules already installed and can just install the mailscanner rpm you need to check for: HTML::Paser, HTML::Tagset, etc as listed in the tarball if they are all installed go ahead with the rpm using rpm -I mailscanner-4xxxxx etc and then if no errors pop up install clamav and then you can edit the config file at /etc/MailScanner/MailScanner.conf BEWARE - stop sendmail first before installing then do the chkconfig stuff that the rpm tells you to, edit the config file and then do /etc/rc.d/init.d/MailScanner start then watch the maillog file using tail -f /var/log/maillog to see it all happening.
