That's internal policy.

It seems strange that you share virus samples with other A/V vendors,
but not with other open source projects.  Especially since you *are* an

If you suggest that we should share malware with open source projects
just because they're open, then your reasoning is very irresponsible.
How do you know they can handle and store malware in the same secure
way as well known AV companies?

I'm merely suggesting that if your policies would prevent you from sharing your virus samples with yourself, then you need to re-evaluate your policies.

It also strikes me as odd that you're acting as the copyright holder of the samples (trying to dictate who may [not] have them), despite not being the original author.

As it stands, the lack of a documented policy makes any decisions appear (to outsiders like me, at least) to be arbitrary. Even documenting the procedure for requesting access would be an improvement.
