If a few minutes after updating database you haven't in clamd.log lines
like these:

Wed Jul 13 01:02:11 2005 -> Reading databases from /var/lib/clamav/
Wed Jul 13 01:02:13 2005 -> Database correctly reloaded (36431 viruses)

and then, independently of updating, such ones:

Wed Jul 13 01:20:20 2005 -> SelfCheck: Database status OK.
Wed Jul 13 02:20:33 2005 -> SelfCheck: Database status OK.
Wed Jul 13 03:20:55 2005 -> SelfCheck: Database status OK.

(the interval depends on SelfCheck, defaults to 3600 s),
then you may have your setup broken somehow.

Of course not. 'man clamd.conf' and notice SelfCheck.

You mean 'freshclam -f'? Hmm, indeed 'freshclam -h' lists that option
but 'freshclam -f' returns:

freshclam: invalid option -- f
ERROR: Unknown option passed.

Thanks for drawing our attention to this.

BTW, the first problem you wrote about, should rather be asked about on
clamav-users ML, not clamav-devel.

Good luck
