Hi Einar
Thanks for your help. I realised part of my mistake and worked it out.
This is what happens now:-

>Save attachment from Marks's mail into your cinerella-cv directory
>(filename sowt.diff)/

The file is saved as sowt.diff in cinelerra-cv absolutely as it appears in the archive from Mark.
The file begins :-

--0023545bd7586f7774048a186f54
Content-Type: text/x-patch; charset=US-ASCII; name="sowt.diff"
Content-Disposition: attachment; filename="sowt.diff"
Content-Transfer-Encoding: base64
X-Attachment-Id: f_gazf81lv0

Q29tbW9uIHN1YmRpcmVjdG9yaWVzOiBteV9jaW5lbGVycmEvcXVpY2t0aW1lL2RvY3MgYW5kIG15
X2NpbmVsZXJyYV9zb3d0L3F1aWNrdGltZS9kb2NzCkNvbW1vbiBzdWJkaXJlY3RvcmllczogbXlf

...............................................and so on ............Ending with:-

cXVpY2t0aW1lX2luaXRfY29kZWNfc293dChxdWlja3RpbWVfYXVkaW9fbWFwX3QgKik7CisKKyNl
bmRpZgo=
--0023545bd7586f7774048a186f54--

(All my permissions for the file are the same as the others in cinelerra-cv)

/>All next commands you must type in terminal.

>cd cinerella-cv
>git checkout Makefile.am
>patch -p1 <sowt.diff/

Here is my terminal output:-

m...@my-pc:~$ cd cinelerra-cv
m...@my-pc:~/cinelerra-cv$ git checkout Makefile.am
m...@my-pc:~/cinelerra-cv$ patch p1 <sowt.diff
patch: **** Only garbage was found in the patch input.
m...@my-pc:~/cinelerra-cv$

So I am still not understanding. I am so sorry.
