OK  I respond to your more recent reply. So many thanks for this attention.

1./"...If I understand correctly, your problem is with playback while in the editor..."/ Yes Correct, viewing in compositor window - the only place I know to look at it.

Good old ffmpeg!
Movie Player in Lucid Lynx - as it comes - is absolutely SPOT ON sync, and the End Board after ten minutes of recording is SPOT ON sync.

Exactly the same in PiTiVi, which is now packaged with Lucid Lynx; BUT the .MOV files play SPOT ON sync WITH the original .MOV contained sound track from the camera file.

3. Zoomed in on timeline and I'd say that clapperboard and sound trace are close enough - within the frame. So it seems to be when actually playing out that things go variable.

4. So now to background rendering attempts. I will work this through and report back in a few days.
