Murray, I'm using Cinelerra successfully on Ubuntu.
She is a good software, especially when you know her and her tastes. There are some operations or fileformats that make her easily irritated. I advice you make her acquaintance using the formats she likes most, so to have a basic and safe workflow. Once you are familiar with her, you can try provoking experiments. For tips on source format see: http://www.g-raffa.eu/Cinelerra/HOWTO/get_media_ready.html#_how_to_choose_the_format_of_your_source_video_for_editing For formats for rendering see: http://www.g-raffa.eu/Cinelerra/HOWTO/rendering.html#_how_to_choose_the_format_for_rendering Have fun!
