Which OS ? Distrib ?
There is success reported with lastest kernel on Fedora 8 and dvgrab,
but sometime, the remaining problem is as simply as checking the good
perms on /dev/fw*.
Previously they were problem with ohci 1.0 hardware (versus 1.1 that works).
But this should be solved with newer kernel (last F-8 kernel is
2.6.24.3-50 from today).

Now the remaining problem are with userland app not yet compatible.
that's the only reason any want to keep the "old/deprecated/borked"
compat ieee1394 layer. ;)
