Ciao! I want you to know how the naming is going.
I talked with cehteh and ichthyo, the core-devs of the project. They agree that the naming is based on community contribution. The community has done a great job during the "collecting names" phase. All the names proposed (seriously or not, on ML, IRC, private mail to the core devs or directly on the wiki) are written on the pipawiki page http://pipapo.org/pipawiki/Cinelerra3/Names At the moment 73 of them are in the main part, (nearly) all of them commented and tested for domains, google search and trademarks. 188 are the names or the inspiring words just listed in the Rubbish Bin. Total 261. Yes, you read correctly: they are 261. That wiki page collects also all the criteria for a good naming stated or discussed on IRC and ML. The community is sooooooooo big and the names are sooooooooooo many that a selection process has been organised: The number of names will be narrowed down. The criteria will be applied to the reduced group of names. The names with the highest marks will enter a popularity contest at the beginning of March. That contest will be announced on the Mailing list but will be held on a wiki page. The name will be decided at the next developer meeting on IRC (6.3) For details about the selection process see the wiki page. Now, if you really want to help for the naming: - always refer to the wiki page linked above. - write (and sign!) your comments about a specific name directly on the wiki page. - check the rubbish bin for seriously good candidates left behind.
