IMO pulldown should be detected and removed at the beginning of the
pipeline.
It will also speed up things by descreasing the number of images.
What exactly do you mean by "removed"? For 24p DV with a 2:3:3:2
pulldown cadence it is straightforward to skip the decoding of every
5th frame. But with 3:2 you have to decode all the frames to extract
the real frames. Do you suggest recoding?
Recoding in HDV will be lossy and recoding to a lossless format will
consume a huge amount of disk space. 24p HDV is quite hairy:
