The 'closed source' NVidia drivers are what the cinelerra OpenGL support was written against. There was an attempt to make it work on ATI also, and I believe it is working, but there seemed to be slight differences in the ATI OpenGL 2.x implementation. I don't think the MX 4000 card supports OpenGL 2.x, there is a table you can check to be sure. We have a pretty thorough OpenGL debug info section on one of the wikis.
