I installed  the Wet Banana extension   (an extension which modifies
the way middle-click scrolling works) and the problem went a way. I
rarely use the middle-click scroll function anyway, although I do kind
of like what this extension does. If you can live with the the way
this extension changes scrolling it might serve as a temporary work-
around (or maybe some other middle-click extension will work for you).
