my status:
ubuntu 8.04 Dell version
google-chrome-unstable_current_i386.deb

Hi. I have recently learned that the installation of Chrome to this
Dell version of Ubuntu causes a little problem when checking for
upgrades. I have encountered such error messages as the automated
upgrade system gets booted up.

The problem is due to the repository thing (which I am yet to
understand), and there is a way to avoid the problem by "sudo touch /
etc/default/google-chrome" before the installation.

In order to do that, I need to uninstall Chrome first. But I
cannot.
sudo apt-get remove google-chrome
gives "cannot find package google-chrome"

When I downloaded the package, the installation manager did the job,
so I expected that Chrome would show up on the list of applications
installed on the computer. But never! I don't know why.

I simply changed the file "/etc/default/google-chrome" to
repo_reenable_on_distupgrage="false"
but it does not do anything.

Could anyone help me out for either uninstalling Chrome or changing
the repository status?
