Oh, I see what you mean now.
What is happening is that Gmail is showing an ad about installing the Google
Toolbar to all users and not limiting it to only those browsers that support
the Google Toolbar. To add to the confusion, Gmail is pointing Chrome users
to the Firefox version of the Toolbar. Don't know why that is, but I have
already contacted the Gmail team about this.

This is not the same as the Hotmail case, where Chrome is masquerading as
Safari to work around a bug in Hotmail (until it is fixed). Chrome is
not masquerading as Firefox on Gmail - it still identifies itself as Chrome.
