circumvent potential bug(?) in clang 2.8 on 64-bit Fedora 14:
With declaration
int i;
following declaration and initialization
char buf[BUFSIZ]= "*/octopus", *s= buf;
clang complains about

(and the generated assembly code indeed looks "strange";
however, with the order reversed, i.e.,
int i;
preceeding
char buf[BUFSIZ]= "*/octopus", *s= buf;
compilation works fine.
