1) yes, 5 GB is the default. You can control this with the 'osd journal size' option during creation. (Or partition the disk manually)
2) no, well, maybe a little bit in weird edge cases with tuned configs but that's rarely advisable. But using Bluestore instead of Filestore might help with the performance.
