It's running as a guest in a Linux hypervisor.

I'm mapping rbd disks attached to a virtual scsi adaptor (so they can be
added and removed).

I've configured FreeNAS to just share each disk as an iSCSI LUN, rather
than configuring a ZFS pool with the disks.
