One benefit of Ubuntu is that they backport kernels. Ubuntu 16.04 is shipped with the 4.4.0 kernel, but when Ubuntu 16.10 comes out (October) it will probably ship with 4.5 or 4.6. However, on 16.04 you can then install the 16.10 kernel.
