As far as I mind - IMHO problem is in acpi code creation (own bytecode language). After integrating this interaction into standard suspend/resume signals - there will only problem of guest suspend support for real hardware. So, nothing special.
You're right - it is nothing special... but there are still systems out there that doesn't support suspend/resume.
It would be nice to be able to backup a running VM no matter what software is actually running inside.
