That setting does not change the observed behaviour. If I su -l then the Escape Sequence DEL removes the character under the cursor and left shifts the line. If I am not the superuser, even in exactly the same gnome terminal window instance, then the DEL has no evident effect. -- *** E-Mail is NOT a SECURE channel *** James B.
