JPG and PNG will work now? (if Motif is built appropriately); that helps. The other thing that would help is a way to specify that specific backdrops should be centered or scaled rather than tiled; with that, it'd be fairly complete (except when one wants some animated program to provide a backdrop; I suppose there's a way to find the window ID of the backdrop, but that's a bit much; and not necessarily all such programs take an arbitrary window ID).
