Hi all,
This has been long overdue, but I am releasing my packaging files for a CDE
package, which can be found here: https://gitlab.com/TheSelousScout/cde-desktop
(I don't really like using sourceforge due to their non-free JS, adware and geo
blocking policies, you can read more about them here if you are interested:
https://www.gnu.org/software/repo-criteria-evaluation.html )
This need a lot of work, and are alpha quality right now, so commits are highly
encouraged, although please read the appropriate debian policy before
contributing! (https://ftp-master.debian.org/REJECT-FAQ.html
https://www.debian.org/doc/manuals/maint-guide/
https://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/
https://wiki.debian.org/HowToPackageForDebian ). The main problems it has now
are:
- Adding manpages (cde-desktop.manpages) causes thousands of errors, although I
looked at the code and the code seems to add manpages on it's own, so this file
could probably be removed all together.
- Install/removal scripts are not implemented yet, theoretically all this would
need is adding the path to the scripts in proper files, but I need a better
understanding of how the installer scripts want to operate under debian's
guidelines, I was hoping that my sponsors could help me with this, but they
have been silent on the matter for a while
- The lintian errors and other issues mentioned in my previous emails
- Piuparts fails with dependency issues (I have all the dependencies installed,
so I don't know why it does this)
- Other files may need to be added mentioned in the maintainer's guide
These are the instructions on how to build the package
- Get the most current release snapshot from sourceforge
- Make a folder and put the tar.gz in the folder, but rename it
"cde-desktop_2.2.4.orig.tar.gz" Naming this file exactly this is very important!
- Unzip the tar, rename "cdesktopenv-code" to "cde-desktop-2.2.4", Same case
about name as number 2
- Go into the folder, download my packaging here
- Unzip it into a file called "debian"
- Remove the tar
- To build, run "debuild -us -uc" (Make sure debhelper and devscripts are
installed)
Thank you for your time,
-Chase
